Thu, June 10 | Amazon, NSC Create First-of-its-kind Partnership to Solve Most Common Workplace Injury

This month, in a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Amazon and the National Safety Council announced a five-year partnership to “invent new ways to prevent the largest category of workplace injuries in the U.S., musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).” The partnership will aim to “prevent MSDs across a variety of industries by engaging key stakeholders, conducting research, inventing new technology and processes, and scaling the results.” Continue reading on The National Safety Council.

Fri, June 11 | German Bundestag passes new law on supply chain ethics

Earlier this month, Germany’s federal parliament (Bundestag), passed a law that starting in 2023 will require German companies to report environmental and human rights abuses along their direct supply chain. Fri, June 11 | USDA to begin payments for 2018 and 2019 natural disasters

The US Department of Agriculture announced that more than $1 billion in payments is due to be released to producers that suffered losses in 2018 and 2019 natural disasters and that were approved applicants for the Quality Loss Adjustment Program or have received payments through the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+). Mon, June 14 | Illinois chemical plant explosion, fires prompt evacuations

Last Monday, an explosion at the Chemtool Inc. chemical plant in Rockton, IL led to massive fires and large plumes of smoke and debris that prompted a mandatory evacuation of homes and businesses in the surrounding area. Chemtool Inc., whose parent company is Lubrizol Corp., manufactures lubricants, grease products, and other fluids. The company is the largest manufacturer of grease in the Americas. Thu, June 17 | AIG's climate policy causes one investor to jump ship

AIG was among four companies that failed to issue “satisfactory responses to engagement and/or breaches of ‘red lines’ around coal involvement, carbon disclosures or deforestation,” according to a press release issued last week by Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), one of Europe’s largest asset managers. As a result, the firm will divest its holdings from the companies due to their “insufficient action to address risks posed by climate change.” Read more on PropertyCasualty 360.

Fri, June 18 | Cruise operator Carnival discloses personal data breach

American cruise brand Carnival Corp. reported on Thursday that it had “detected unauthorized access to its computer systems in March, after which it alerted regulators and hired a cybersecurity company to investigate the breach.” That latest in a growing number of cyberattacks is said to have affected the “personal information of some guests, employees and crew for Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and medical operations.” Read more on Business Insurance.

Fri, June 18 | Cal/OSHA adopts revised COVID-19 workplace standards

For the second time in two weeks, California’s Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board has adopted revisions to its COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards. Fri, June 18 | AIG, Chubb, other insurers form cyber consortium

AIG and Chubb are among a group of cyber insurers who’ve joined to form CyberAcuView LLC, “a consortium aimed at enhancing cyber risk mitigation efforts across the industry.” According to a statement, the organization’s activities “are conducted under strict antitrust review and guidance.” Read more on Business Insurance.
