New EHS Tools Support Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics Initiatives

CHICAGO, January 19, 2022 – Origami Risk, the industry-leading risk, safety and insurance Software as a Service (SaaS) technology firm, today announced the launch of new online occupational health tools to support industrial hygiene and ergonomics initiatives, building on its growing suite of web-based and mobile solutions for environment, health, and safety (EHS) professionals.

“Even as COVID-19 continues to have a dramatic impact on workplaces throughout the U.S. and around the world, EHS teams still face imperatives to maintain or enhance safety, reduce risks, drive efficiency, support productivity and achieve operational excellence,” said Sean Salvas, senior market strategy lead-EHS at Origami Risk. “In collaboration with our EHS clients, we have developed a variety of tools that enable EHS professionals to address occupational health and safety risks by applying proven industrial hygiene and ergonomics methodologies with greater precision, speed, efficiency and transparency.”

Origami’s new tools support EHS professionals in the following areas:

  • Similar exposure groups (SEG). This tool uses visualizations to enable EHS professionals to identify and group workers with similar exposures based on location, job, task, process, equipment operated and other factors. By assessing groups of workers with common exposures, EHS teams can target resources to SEGs with the highest risk levels.
  • Qualitative exposure assessments (QEA). EHS teams can use this resource to evaluate health and safety risks for individual SEGs, graphically display findings, and establish priorities for measures such as sampling, investigation, monitoring, controls, and medical surveillance.
  • Sampling plans and events. This tool helps EHS teams validate or refine workplace risk assessments using rigorous sampling methodologies and evaluate findings against industry or regulatory standards, including OSHA and NIOSH. It also facilitates compliance with periodic sampling standards and helps prioritize risks for sampling, as well as improving communication and generating electronic documentation for related litigation support.
  • Ergonomic risk assessment tools. Origami’s online tools enable EHS teams to incorporate widely used methodologies to evaluate overall ergonomic risk and identify and apply appropriate controls, work practices and procedures to lower risk of injury and musculoskeletal disorders. These include: the NIOSH Lifting Equation; Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA); Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA); Office Ergonomics Self-assessment; Industrial Ergonomics Assessment; Ergonomics Quick Screen Assessment; WISHA Lifting Tool; Strain Index; and ergonomic assessment action items.

Origami’s new tools build on the firm’s existing suite of EHS solutions, including dashboards and pre-configured online tools to help EHS and risk professionals in various industries speed up enterprise-wide implementation of safety initiatives. Available via web and mobile, they facilitate timely and efficient incident investigations, internal and external reporting, safety auditing, inspections and monitoring, corrective action assessment and effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
